How Does Age Affect My Foot Health?

You may not know this but your feet can change as you age. Here’s a quick breakdown on some of these age-related developments:

In your 30s: At this stage of life, the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in your foot may start to weaken or lose resilience.

In your 40s: A lot of people start to experience foot issues due to the weakening that occurs in your 30s. You might notice that your feet are sore at the end of the day or start to experience common issues such as bunions, hammertoes, or nail fungus.

In your 50s and beyond: By the time people reach their 50s potentially half of the fatty padding in the soles of their feet is gone. For women, lower bone density in the feet can also lead to a higher risk of stress fractures. People in this age group are also more prone to calluses and corns. Foot problems related to chronic conditions are also more common at this age.

Due to these conditions, it’s important to look at your foot care as an investment in your future. Small steps to take care of your feet right now can lead to big payoffs further down the road.
